How does the word counter work?

Is punctuation counted as part of a word?
Yes. Punctuation attached to a word, such as "hello!", counts as part of that word. This matches the usual behaviour of word processors.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All counting happens in your browser. Your text is never sent to a server.
